London Seminary Launches Challenge 50
PRESS RELEASE
As 50th Anniversary Approaches, London Seminary Launches Bold New Plan to Help the Next Generation
London, UK, 28 April 2025
To mark its 50th anniversary, London Seminary, an evangelical vocational training college based in Finchley, London, has announced the launch of “Challenge 50”. The bold campaign will help train the next generation of pastoral ministers across the UK, and meet one growing need in particular.
While churches long for well-trained pastors, and many have come forward for training, increasingly the main obstacle is financial support, especially in diaspora communities. The aim of Challenge 50 is to fund 50 students on the Seminary’s Pastoral Training Course who would not otherwise receive rigorous, Christ-centred training. Fewer are coming forward for ministry than in previous generations, and some who do come forward seek less rigorous preparation. Particularly in some of the diaspora communities which make up much of London and increasingly the whole UK, there is a dire need for well-trained pastors, and the major challenge is funding.
“We have seen the tremendous need for rigorous training,” commented Seminary Principal Bill James, “and we have seen the Lord raise up workers for the field, so we hope and trust that Challenge 50 will grant rigorous and practical training to many who could not otherwise afford it.”
Partnership & Development Manager Eliot Kern added: “In one sense this is a grave situation, but it is also an exciting and unique opportunity. There is a real need in these churches, and the Seminary is here to meet it with excellent training, so it is a perfect alignment, and we hope Christians in the UK will help us address this need by praying and giving to the Challenge 50campaign.”
