Our online Ethics Reading Group is led by our Tutor in Christian Ethics, Matthew Mason.
From September to November, we will read Niels Hemmingsen, On the Law of Nature (trans. E.J. Hutchinson; CLP Academic, 2018). Although he is little known today, the Lutheran theologian Niels Hemmingsen—‘The Teacher of Denmark’—was one of the most widely-read sixteenth century authors. This book is a classic exposition of the common Reformation teaching concerning law and virtue, and has much to teach us today about the classical Protestant understanding of law and justice in society.
