Colonialism and Missions, Contemporary Challenges in mission (part one)
10:20am

Part of London Seminary’s Autumn Lecture Series 2026

Colonialism and Mission have a long and complicated history. Some view the contemporary missionary movement as strongly compromised with the values of empire and colonialism, leading some believers to be reluctant to commit to cross-cultural mission work today because of these associations. How do we answer these challenges? The morning session will focus on the history and seek to apply lessons to current and future mission in cross-cultural contexts. Will Maxson will join us online to lead us through this subject.

Our afternoon session will look at Contemporary Challenges in World Mission since 1910. Mark Pickett (of UFM) will speak. Part two is Friday, 27th November.

Will Maxson will lead our session on Colonialism and Mission. Will’s background is in Muslim-majority countries.

Mark Pickett has a background in mission in the Far East. He now continues to work with UFM supporting cross-cultural ministry. Mark blogs at https://markpickett.blogspot.com/

You are invited to join this seminary lecture on 26th November 2026. These lectures are intended for pastors and those preparing for ministry, but others may be interested and welcome to join us.
