God’s Pressure Valve – Pastors’ Academy
10:30am
Garry Williams, director of the Pastors’ Academy and minster at Ebenezer Chapel in Luton, will be teaching this Study Day.
Garry writes, “I’ve been struck talking to people who live around Ebenezer Chapel by how many of them narrate the same shaped story: ‘I was a Christian when I was younger, but then this hard thing happened and I walked away.’ How did this happen? Why did they deal with their suffering so badly? Might the neglected practice of lament be the way in which we learn to deal with our trouble before the Lord, rather than letting it turn us away from him? If so, how do we lead the people of God in actually doing it together?
This day will look at the pattern of lament in Scripture through a focused study of Matthew 5:4 and Psalm 77. It will include a walk through a Psalms-based lament service, which we will then actually pray through for ourselves. Come to the day to learn more about the lament of the people of God, and to do it together.

Previous attendees of study days led by Garry said:
“It was genuinely useful, because we explored themes that affect and regulate so much week-by-week word ministry; and it was faith-building, because we took a step back and could see once again the magnificence of christ in the depths of his word.”
“It was just incredibly edifying, stimulating and helpful in so many ways. I’m so pleased to have been there and so grateful that the day was so clearly taught.”
